Humbling experience as we participated in the lantern floating festival. Obon Dance
Really cool place to check out if you have some spare time. Just remember to be respectful.
This is a non profit Buddhist Mission. There are activities planned here during the year. A Bon festival with lighted lanterns sent out to the ocean with well wishes for loved ones who have passed. Chinese New Year is celebrated also. Dancing exhibitions in full Japanese costumes are surrounded by specialty foods. Major participation by local members and families of the Jodo Mission make it one of our most festive occasions in Lahaina. Come early, parking is limited. Tai Chi is offered on Friday mornings at the community building facing the beach. The second largest Buddha in the world peacefully oversees the tolling of the gong every evening at 8:00pm.
Really amazing spot just off the beaten path, and definitely worth a quick visit.
Got married 33 year ago today at Jodo Mission...it's amazing amazing place...I want to go back and visit with my 32 year old,son who was in my belly that day. I am forever grateful for the beautiful experience.
