This place used to be good. Wish I would have read the recent reviews first. Food is subpar and service was marginal but what was disgusting was the cockroach that crawled across our table before the meal was started. We had to smash it and alert the waiter who had the look on his face of "not again"! No apologies from anyone including management. In fact we were actually charged extra for soda refills. We weren't looking for a hand out but the group next to us didn't get charged when they changed their fried rice order to garlic fried rice which apparently was $1 extra. Disappointing for our last night on Maui. We will never go back... Diners beware because this isn't the first time of roach problems.
I've been to lots of Tepanyaki restaurants similar to this one but this is by far one of the worst. Forget the price, because you will expect to pay alot going to these places. I would understand if their service would be satisfactory but the waiting staff here are very rude. The beef was more likely a New York strip rather than a kobe beef.

We had a reservation for 7pm and did not have food until 8:30. The hostess was rude and seemed rushed. While we waited in the bar for our table to be ready we couldn't even get a drink because the lone bartender was extremely backed up. The understaffed bar ended up being a theme as the rest of the departments seemed to be massively understaffed as well. Once we got to the table we noticed quite a few bugs crawling on the walls and twice we had to remove bugs from our table. The people we were seated with even left due to a combination of bugs and horribly slow wait times. Instead of serving us the staff then proceeded to wait until they could find another group to fill the now unoccupied space at our table further delaying our meal. Once our chef arrived things got a little better as he was very attentive to our needs and did cook up some decent food. The food was rather expensive, though. Overall we had an extremely dissatisfying experience and I highly recommend anyone find a better place to eat.
Terrible service starting with the hostess not being very clear on where we should sit, this was our first time here. We didn't just want sushi. But she kinda just shooo'd us the the sushi bar. So after we talked to the other waitress we moved to the dining area were everything took long and the rice came out last, food was okay... not worth the price. And we hardly saw our waitress. The bussers were very attentive and was most helpful. Waited for the bill for some time. Then it came back wrong. So waited a little more i read the reviews beforehand but decided to just give it a try. I regret that!
Worst service ever. This restaurant advertised a kids eat free promotion in a Maui kids publication. My two young sons saw the picture of the "fire volcano" and wanted to go. We called and got a late 8PM reservation, which seemed okay since we were on vacation. We waited a few minutes to be seated and were taken upstairs with another family. We waited several more minutes before a server came to take our drink and hibachi order. We then proceeded to wait another 40 minutes for food. Our oldest fell asleep on the table. At one point, the server brought soup, but no spoons to eat it with. We asked another server who finally passed by for spoons and when we'd see our chef. He said they were short staffed and he'd look into it. One finally showed up, but by then it was nearly 9pm and everyone was tired and cranky. We debated leaving, but were starving and didn't want to wait somewhere else. It turns out the server also got our order wrong. When we went to pay, they gave us trouble trying to apply the kids eat free promotion from the brochure, which they apparently knew nothing about it. We spoke with the manager who apologized for the long wait and error, but blamed us for not saying something sooner. Instead of comping a free entree or meal entirely, he told us he'd "hook us up next time" knowing we were visiting. We have no intention of returning. Nonexistent service, rundown, understaffed, and disorganized. Such a letdown for our entire family.
I'm editing my review to this place since the owner has responded in a positive way. I will try Kobe again once i get back to Maui!
Mr. Kobe Ohana, I understand how frustrating it is for you to read these reviews but Instead of apologizing to your customers about their bad experience in your restaurant, just make it a point that you need to change a lot of things at your restaurant. The pest problems is the number thing that you need to take care of immediately. Nobody wants to see a roach crawling on the table before meal. That's disgusting! Our Ohana from Maui paid for the dinner so I couldn't tell our group to just go elsewhere instead. I lost my appetite but since I was with my family, I had no choice. But really sir, Do take care of these issues.
i gave it a one star because of the Chef that took care of our meal. He looked Filipino to me and he was entertaining. He was really good on what he does.
Before our chef came, we got rid of 3 small bugs in total, crawling on our table. The other group on the other table left out of frustration. The service is extremely slow.
