Initially a great experience renting our snorkel gear as soon as we hit Lahaina. Quick, easy and friendly. When we went to return our gear we dropped it off, picked out some merchandise and went to check out. Things go south from here. The employee was obviously intoxicated on some sort of substance (I'm not judging, I'm just stating facts), and he couldn't complete the transaction. Upon our arrival back, (yes...we tried to give the benefit of the doubt), then it just got even worse. The second employee (Denny?) was more intoxicated than the first, (I could literally smell the fumes) he had a really difficult time producing change for a $70 transaction. I grew up frequenting businesses like this (My Granddad was a vendor on Daytona Beach for 20+ years renting chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, ect to tourists and I would work there in the summer while living in Oregon) I currently live in a small, coastal town in Oregon that depends on tourism to exist. I have also worked in customer service for over 15 years and this was by far one of the most bizarre, unprofessional, hilarious experiences I've had shopping. Did give us a good laugh though!

My wife and I stopped in to rent our masks and snorkels for the week and Dave R at the LahainaLuna store set us up with great equipment, coupons and recommendations for resturants, deli, beaches and snorkeling locations. Very friendly and knowledable.
The male staff member tried to overcharge me and lie about it. I Tried to buy a $19.99 pair of sunglasses with 15% off coupon. Sales tax is 4% in Hawaii (according to the store next door) and the guy charged me $20 and change. When I asked to clarify the math (the receipt didn’t lay out the details at all) he acted like I was stupid. Needless to say I returned the sunglasses.
I entered Boss Frog's with great apprehension because I had many questions and concerns about snorkeling in the waters of Maui. I left the store almost 2 hours later with the myriad of questions I had about all things water, as well as information on how to make the most of my time on the island. But most important of all, I left Boss Frog with a new friend, Michele. This woman was so personable that I nearly forgot the initial reason for entering Boss Frog's. Michele answered all of my questions honestly with care and concern to very specific issues that I raised. She was knowledgeable about the company product and services but her job to sell did not sway her in convincing me to partake in an activity to which was determined to be unsafe for myself. We talked at great length about alternative activities to which we decided on the Sunrise Bike Special. All of which would not have been possible without Michele's innate ability to connect to various people on several different levels. She was both hospitable and professional and this established trust. If it were not for Michele's candid advice, my trip to Maui might not have been my most famous vacation thus far. I definitely would recommend anyone visiting Maui to visit Michele at Boss Frog's for everything water and outdoor activity related, and I assure you will leave with an impressive itinerary and possibly a new friend.
