Went around 8p on a Mon eve. The place was comfortably full but not overcrowded. The ambience was warm and pleasant with the deep browns of the wood and fire torches lit all around. The breeze coming off the ocean prevented the humidity from making us feel uncomfortable. Staff was pleasant and attentive. Food was amazing. We had the seafood: Fire Grilled- the texture of the fish was firm and so flavorful, a nice alternative for all the steak lovers out there. The Banana leaf Steamed Island Fish n Shrimp was incredible. Fish was light n flaky, shrimp were huge all cooked to perfection. Both dishes came with green steamed rice...just delicious. The lava cake was fantastic. If your looking for that one big splurge during your stay on Maui you won't be disappointed. All worth it!!
Our server was swift & friendly. We went during the lunch rush & service was fast.
Travelling as a group of 6 and staying at the Honua Kai Resort we tried here our first night, ad returned a few times during our stay.
The Cocktails were great!
Entertainment was wonderful, wine was so-so. Our server, meh. When I asked our server for vegetarian options, his first response was the onion soup. I replied that most onion soups have meat stock, he interrupted me to say, “Nope, no meat at all.” I asked him to check and while he was gone, I looked up the Duke’s recipe, which showed VEAL stock! Server came back and said they had a different chef that night and he made it with meat, but they usually don’t. Obviously a misstatement, so I was skeptical from then on. His next was, “So...are you trying to be a vegetarian or something?” I replied, “I’m not trying, I am.” My husband suggested the Farm to Fork, which was delicious. My husband was pleased with his steak and shrimp. Other than the server’s attempt at deception, it was a pleasant experience. Pricey, but we expected it.
The Sunset is awesome.
But what hotel, that has you by the short & curlies already, does have amazing food?
The food was amazing and the service was just as good, even during the dinner rush. Our server Frank, was super friendly, and attentive. Highly recommend the visit!
Overall, it's all about the location & view; we saw whales playing in the ocean as we ate. The food is not amazing; just regular pub grub. We had the calamari, market salad with local fish & fish & chips. Passable food but certainly not life-changing.
Great atmosphere, good food and reasonable prices.
Good enough for a hotel establishment. Their custom made cocktails are the better options; stronger & less syrupy. Be sure to try one of those!
