If I could give this initial experience a 0 or even a negative review I would. Unfortunately google is too kind, so a 1 star experience will suffice. First off, I understand that the ferry is a limited means of travel from Maui to Lana'i so you get what you get. The overall ride was fine, fairly quick, and the crew did a fine job. The one thing that left a sour taste in my mouth, and my family's as well, was the blatant disregard and disrespectful nature of the captain towards another family. Prior to boarding and exiting the ferry, Captain Ron, clearly did not have the "Aloha Spirit". Instead, he degraded the customers by yelling at them and blaming them for holding up the line. He noted that it was their fault for not making a reservation when the crew themselves shared a few minutes prior that customers would be able to buy a ticket aboard. Captain Ron continued to belittle the customer and the child. As a customer wanting to experience the beauty and friendliness of the islands, it was clear to me that Captain Ron had little to no understanding of what that meant. The bottom line is that he was a rude and arrogant bully with no patience for the elderly and children.

we took a day trip to Lanai and loved our ferry ride. the bottom portion of the ferry sells drinks and snacks which made the 45 min trip so fun.
This is the ferry that takes you back and forth. You can buy your tickets online and then you have to check in when you get to Lahaina. The ride can be very bumpy if you travel in the afternoon, and you can feel absolutely horrible if you are riding it at night. You lose the horizon, which is awful. Try to go for morning rides. Stay an extra night so you can enjoy drinks while on Lanai!
