There is a grassy area for picnics and grilling, shady areas on the beach, and a protected areas for the smaller kids to get in the water.
Awesome park with a small calm lagoon perfect for smaller kids. There's a bigger beach with bigger waves right next to it though if you have older kids or adults! There's a great picnic/ grassy area behind the lagoon beach that's shady and nice bathrooms. Parking is seriously tough though- park on the highway anywhere you see when you're coming up to the park, the lot only has like 12-15 spots. (It does have a handicap one though).
Needing to find a beach where my daughter could surf and the rest of us could swim or just lay around, Launiupoko Beach Park is almost ideal. The waves were plentiful for a beginner/intermediate surfer and the beach was great for general water play for all ages.
If you are going to surf there, you can enter from the beach, from the protected area, of via the rocky area to the right of the protected area. There are showers, decent amount of parking, and restrooms.
Makes for a nice rest stop for all those fellow roadies out there. THERE IS WATER FOUNTAINS HERE!
Now if you are looking for lively and local-ish, this might just be the place.
The only downside is that it's a bit noisy from the increasing freeway traffic or many big parties that are held there. So if you are looking for serene, peaceful, and laid back, this is not the place for you.
Beautiful park with swimming, surfing, boarding. Clean restrooms with shower, tables and grills. Exit at traffic light a plus. Great picnic place or fundy at the beach.
Good for paddle boarding. Water can be a little murky, so beware of your surroundings and stay alert at all times. Also, enter on the left, as there are many sharp rocks. Saw several turtles!
