Great place. A little hard to find. We first tried going to "The Gazebo" because of all the great reviews. Must be great food because when we got there, there was line about 100 ft long. That and it's in an "awkward" location. So instead of waiting over an hour we went to the Castaway Cafe. It's located behind the Aston Maui Kaanapali Villas. Food was great. Pancakes and Omelets good and reasonably priced.
Had the ahi tuna poke stack. Was lovely. My entire party enjoyed their meal!
Great beach restaurant with superb prices for large local meals. So much better than Dukes or my of the Weston Villa restaurants of which we are owners. Should really be keeping this secret but where can you ANYWHERE get a calamari steak for $7!
We have been coming to Maui for vacation for the last 18 years, and recently this was the first place we headed for lunch after dropping our bags in our room because we always have loved the fresh fish and chips they serve. Unfortunately, and maybe a owner or management change, our meal was less than favorable. Instead of nice chunks of perfectly fried fish we were served what looked like overcooked fish sticks, looked like something bought frozen and then cooked. Very disappointed due to the fact that we felt we could almost count on our favorite place to stay on track. To add to our time there, I would agree with some others who have already stated here that it seem a bit impersonal, once our meal showed up we were not visited again to ask how our meal was or if we needed more water, or drinks, the service in past times seemed more attentive so overall we were underwhelmed. Not sure if we will be back in the future.
Maybe it's pretty good food, we don't know. My wife and I reserved a table, they put my name on a list, we waited patiently for a long time, but did not get seated.I walked over to see if our turn was coming soon, and noticed we were CROSSED OFF!And four or five parties AFTER us had already been seated!Well,that explains the waiting! We were so famished that we cruised down the way to SLAPPY CAKES!Great place!Again,I don't know how good the food is at Castaways, and we NEVER WILL,because we'll never return! THANKS, CASTAWAYS!
